There are 2 ACD schools in Cambodia: ACD Battambang and ACD Banteay Meanchey.
Mission
ACD’s mission is to provide targeted and tailored education projects to increase the capacity of Cambodians from government, civil society and non-government organizations to work more effectively towards the development of Cambodia.
History
The Battambang, Cambodia school was established in 1993 by IDP Education Australia (owned collectively by Australia's universities and colleges), primarily to run an Australian Government funded program to teach English language to selected Cambodian Government officials. At that time we were known as ACE (Australian Centre for Education).
In June 1995 teacher James White opened classes in Sisophon with UNDP. In 1996 our AusAid funded classes started in the Department of Agriculture, Sisophon. They later moved to the Department of Health, and finally our own school in 2005.
In Pursat government management training started in 1999 and in 2002 in Pailin.
In 2002 six ACE schools in provincial Cambodia changed name to ACD (Australian Centres for Development). At this time, IDP gave up ownership and control of these schools, with control passing to the Battambang and Kompong Cham branch managers. The schools remained open and the same staff, accounting and operating procedures continued under the new ACD name.
The two provincial schools, managed by Battambang, operate under an MOU signed by ACE with the Ministry of Education in 1998 and endorsed by the Battambang Governor in 2002. Although the original AusAID funded project has long since stopped, we are still run as a not-for-profit non-government organization focused on aiding Cambodian development through education.
ACD Today
In each of our school locations we are the top provider of English language training and often the most trusted provider of other training as well (Management Diploma's from Australia’s RMIT University, GIS and AutoCAD software, Development Studies, Project Management, etc.) Past and current student group sponsors include: UN agencies (UNDP, UNHCR, WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, WFP, FAO, etc.); major international organizations (CARE, Oxfam, World Vision, International Committee of the Red Cross, AOG, Handicap International, CARITAS, IRC, CRS, etc.); Governments (Official agencies of Australia, Germany and the United States); and many local organizations.
Over our twenty-five years in provincial Cambodia we have built a very extensive network of contacts. Indeed when other individuals or organizations come to town, we are frequently sought out for information and advice. We are trusted by both the foreign and Khmer communities. When the Provincial Governor or expatriate foreign development workers need better English, they come to us.
